So today I am sharing my third installment of my "back to school" series! This was designed with teachers in mind, but is totally applicable to anyone who needs to streamline their wardrobe or routine when getting ready for work. Today's focus is the top ten teacher wardrobe must-haves for back to school. I've selected the clothing items I think are essential to being comfortable, looking professional and polished, but are still easy to wear/style. We're going to start from the bottom (shoes) and work our way up (tops). Hope you enjoy!
1. Comfy flats. This is a MUST if you are a teacher or in a profession where you are on your feet all day. I love Tory Burch flats. They are not only comfy, but the quality is excellent so they will last forever. They're also so stinkin cute! These are a little pricey though. I also recommend Steve Madden flats and Target always has some really cute ones!!
2. Nude Wedges. The other pair of shoes that I always reach for are nude wedges. I have several styles that range from casual to more dressy. These are also from Tory Burch, again a little pricey but you are getting great quality and amazing comfort. I can wear these all day long and my feet don't hurt! Can I get an amen??? Mine are old, similar here. Cheaper here and here.
3. Black Skirt/Pants. The essential go-to, everyday piece. Wearing black bottoms (skirts or pants) are easy to throw on and can be paired with nearly everything! You could wear a pencil skirt, maxi skirt, skinny pants, slacks, whatever! There's nothing left to say. You need black bottoms in your closet. Boom. My skirt is old from Loft, similar here. Pants are old from Loft, similar here. Both linked items are on MAJOR SALE at Loft for 40% off your entire purchase!!!
4. Pencil Skirts. Nothing says "professional" quite like a pencil skirt. You can dress them up or down. Solid colors are always easy to wear, but I love a good print! All of the skirts pictured above are from Loft. The two skirts on the left are currently available and 40% off!! You can get the navy one here and the grey one here. I love the longer length plus they are very stretchy and comfortable.
5. Chambray Shirt. I love a good chambray shirt. Especially when they are super soft like the Loft one above. These are great because they go with everything! My favorite way to wear them is tucked into skirts. The shirt on the left is old from Target, similar and less than $12 here. The one on the right is from Loft (I linked the Loft "chambray" page because there are so many styles to choose from!)
6. Shell Top. These are my favorite tops to wear to work. They keep you cool but can also easily be worn with a cardigan. They look great with pants or skirts and they come in a million variations! Done and done! All of my shell tops are from the Loft. Check out what they have right now, on sale, here.
7. Jean Jackets. Because let's be real, it is IMPOSSIBLE to keep your classroom at the perfect temperature. I am always either too hot or too cold. Love a good jean jacket that can be thrown over anything. I especially love them over a casual dress. Mine are both from Loft (shocking!!). The darker wash is here and the lighter wash can be found here.
8. Cardigans. My collection of cardigans is slightly ridiculous. I remember in college we would joke around in our education classes about how we needed to start stocking up on cardigans. I took that a little too seriously because I have quite the little assortment these days. Cardigans are great worn alone, buttoned up or worn over a top or dress. My favorites are from the Loft and Target.
9. Simple Dress. Every teacher needs a simple dress that you can wear to dress up for special days like "meet the teacher" or "parent-teacher conferences" but can also be dressed down for day to day. The two black and white dresses are from the Loft, similar here also love this. The burgundy dress is from Nordstrom.
10. Tote Bag. Last, but certainly not least is a great tote. Of course, I always had a massive "teacher bag" for lugging home papers to grade, lamination to cut out, professional development books, etc. but I also found that it really helped to have a large tote bag to use as my everyday purse. This allowed me the freedom to not feel the need to lug my massive teacher bag back and forth everyday (although most days I still did!). The tote gives you enough room for your purse essentials, but also room to throw in some papers to grade or your lesson plan book. I always keep my Emily Ley planner with me and these two bags have more than enough room. The tote on the left is Tory Burch and tote on the right is Longhcamp.
That sums up my top ten teacher must haves for back to school! What are your workwear must haves???
I'll be back next week with more outfit photos since my photographer (aka husband) will be back in town. Have a great weekend!
