Preppy and Primary

Hey y'all!

So Friday night, Matt and I went to Sausalito for Jazz On The Bay. Every Friday night in the summer, they have a different jazz band play out by the water. It's a free concert and we bring wine and snacks and always have a great time. It gets pretty chilly when the fog rolls in down by the water so I wanted to dress in layers and I feeling preppy. I love how the blue gingham shirt, yellow sweater, and red lips go together. Primary colors at their best! It's bright and cheery and a perfect transition to fall weather.

Crazy how the city is completely blocked by the fog! Usually you have a great view of San Francisco right here.

White After Labor Day

Hey y'all!

Today I am showing you three ways that I plan on wearing white denim this fall. I can't believe Labor Day is just around the corner! We've all heard the "rule" that you shouldn't wear white after Labor Day, but that's just silly! You just don't want to dress like you're going to the beach when those fall months roll around. I've got three easy ways you can wear white denim with some staple fall pieces that you probably already have in your closet.

1. Pair white jeans with a plaid shirt and booties. This is so easy to do and looks great with virtually any type/color of plaid top.

Outfit Details:
Top is Target (can't find it online but purchased it recently in stores), similar here / Jeans are Loft / Booties are Nordstrom

1. Pair white jeans with an olive green top and cognac colored boots. This is a great option because it incorporates a signature fall color (olive) and the tall boots make it cooler weather appropriate. You can easily swap out the top for another signature fall color (think burgundy, burnt orange, mustard, etc.)

3. Pair white jeans with layers. I love the color combo of the gray sweater, denim jacket, and red scarf. Wearing layers is key in San Francisco because the weather changes so quickly. Plus, I decided to wear my Converse tennies so this look is ideal for walking around, shopping, or running errands in the fall.

I hope you enjoyed my three ways to wear white jeans this fall! Let me know how YOU would wear white after Labor Day! Comment below or shoot me an email: SouthernInSanFran@gmail.com. Talk to y'all soon!

The Coatigan

He y'all!

So today I am sharing one of the greatest inventions for fall and winter! Drum roll please...THE COATIGAN! I'm sorry I just crack up when I hear that name, I love it so much!!! It is exactly what it sounds like, a coat and a cardigan combined. I am very cold-natured so I am always stocking up on cardigans, jackets, sweaters, coats, etc. The Loft has outdone themselves with this lil creation. It is essentially a really thick and oversized cardi. It is super soft and I love navy and rust colored stripes for fall. I paired it with my favorite new booties and with the sixty degree temps at night, I have been in fall heaven!

Seriously so cozy and soft!!!
These booties though....I have been searching for the last month to find the right pair and glory hallelujah these are it! So cute and comfortable. I especially love the little dip at the top that shows a little extra ankle (scandalous!). They also come in black.
Awkward pose...I swear my legs are too long to sit like this but it shows you how cute the shoes are sooo oh well!
Did I mention the coatigan has pockets?!?!

Outfit Details:

Coatigan is from Loft (I'm wearing an XS)/ Top is Loft / Jeans are Old Navy (on sale for only $25!!) / Booties are Vince Camuto / Earrings are Kendra Scott in Goldstone / Necklace is old from Anthropology / Purse is old from Tory Burch, similar here

I hope you enjoy this amazing creation as much as I do! Anyone know when Starbucks is releasing their pumpkin spice lattes? I. AM. SO. READY. Happy Monday!

Haute Dogs

Hey y'all!

I am so excited to share with you the new MAC fall collection! I always love the seasonal collections that come out and the fall and winter collections are always my favorites. For the last five or so years, I have picked up a similar limited edition lip gloss from the MAC fall collection. They always have a beautiful golden, sparkly, nude that I end up wearing nonstop. Thankfully this collection once again has a similar tone gloss so I had to snatch it up! I had an appointment at my local MAC counter to come in and check out the goods. Keep scrolling to see photos of the collection as well as my personal opinions and purchases. Hope you enjoy!

The collection is called Haute Dogs and was inspired by woman's best friend! They describe the colors as "buttery fur tones" for eyes and "regal berry" tones for lips.

The collection consists of four sculpting powders for a more subtle contour/highlight. It also has two Mineralize Skinfinishes in Soft and Gentle (shimmery light peach) shown on the left and Cheeky Bronze (shimmery coral bronze) shown on the right. There are two mixed fiber face brushes as well.

This is a fully mineralized collection. There are four Mineralize Lip Glosses and five Mineralize Lipsticks. These formulas are very moisturizing and long-wearing. There are four gel eyeliners, two eyebrow pencils, three eyeshadow quads, two lip liners (both are in the permanent collection), three nail polishes, and two eye brushes.

I played around with some of the shaping powders which offered a pretty, glowy contour. I also loved the silvery gray gel eyeliner! It is so beautiful to use as an eyeshadow base. All of the lip products are beautiful and they all have really cute doggy names!! My two favorites are Labradorable (deep wine) which is perfect for fall and Rare Breed (midtone nude pink) which is a must-have shade for any skin tone. My two favorite glosses are Dressed to the K9s (deep plum) and Lap Dog (light pink nude). I didn't love the eyeshadow quads. Although the colors are stunning, I am not a fan of MAC's mineralize eyeshadows (too much fallout and not enough pigment for me).

Both of the Mineralize Skinfinishes are gorgeous. I am really into the "strobing" makeup trend right now (although I've always loved to pile on my highlight) and both of theses shades are beautiful and shimmery without being glittery.

I had a hard time narrowing down what I wanted to buy! I was working with the sweetest artist, Ycela, who was really patient with my indecisiveness. Thank you Ycela! I ended up with the mineralize lipstick in Labradorable (I have no self control when it comes to berry lip shades in the fall) and the mineralize glass in Dressed to the K9s. Paired together, it is the perfect fall lip! Remember the signature fall nude gloss that I was talking about earlier? Well, this year it is Lap Dog. If you buy one thing, it should be this gloss!!! It is so beautiful on it's own or on top of any lipstick. If I didn't already have tons of nude pinks, I would have picked up the lipstick in Rare Breed but I couldn't justify another lipstick in that shade. I also bought the Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle. This is a MAC cult favorite and I can't believe I have never owned it before! So excited!!! You can see the swatches of what I got below...

Top to bottom: Mineralize Lipstick in Labradorable, Mineralize Glass in Dressed to the K9s, Mineralize Glass in Lap Dog, and Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle.

Of course I had to share my doggy BFF, Winston!!!

You should definitely check out the collection for yourself! You can shop online, here, or at your local MAC store/counter. What are your favorites from the collection?

70's Vibes

Hey y'all!

So today I am bringing you another great transition to fall outfit. I love how the flared jeans, mules, and fringe give it a bit of a 70's vibe! I wore this to dinner at Terrapin Crossroads one night. If you are ever across the Golden Gate Bridge, you have got to check out this restaurant! It was started by Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead. It is right on the canals in San Rafael with a great patio and live music every night. Plus, the food is fabulous! I recommend the black truffle pizza. Anyway, I knew it would get chilly in the evening so I wanted wear layers. I also thought the 70's feel was appropriate for a Deadhead restaurant!

Outfit Details:

Back to School...Series Finale

Hey y'all!

So today I am wrapping up my little "back to school" series! I am going into my sixth year in education this year. I have had quite the little journey over the last several years and have met some truly amazing people and the most fabulous kiddos. I thought it would be fun to reflect on the last five years of teaching. If you are a teacher, know a teacher, and especially if you are married to a teacher, know that you are appreciated and what you do is truly incredible day in and day out. I am praying for all of you as you begin a new year. Your students are so lucky to have you!!!

And now for a trip down memory lane...

My first teaching job was in Oklahoma. I taught first grade at the same private school that I went to for elementary! I also had the amazing opportunity to work with my mom! She is the elementary art teacher there. The thing that is so special about teaching is that you become so close with your teammates. I have been incredibly lucky in that I have had the privilege to work alongside some of the most incredible women!

After my first year, I moved to Texas (that's where my husband is from!) and taught first grade again. Another huge blessing in my life is that I had the opportunity to work under three amazing principals!!! Such inspiring leadership and devoted friendship.

After two years, I was sought out by my most recent principal who completely molded me into the teacher and leader I am today. I also had the unique opportunity to get to work with one of my closest elementary friends! I taught second grade for two years before recently moving to California. Miss these girls so much! Sniff sniff!!

So, to all of my precious teacher friends - I wish you a wonderful new school year! I miss you and love you to pieces!!!

I am thrilled to begin a new chapter this year working part time with third graders and working on my masters degree full time. Happy New (School) Year!

***You may have noticed...I tend to change my hair a lot! Guess I get bored easily :)
